Requirements for SERVING Public Office in Nigeria

Requirements for running Public Office in Nigeria:

 

president

  • Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian citizen (by birth for the Executive Offices)
  • Age: President & Vice President – 35 years
  • Education: Up to School Certificate level or its equivalent
  • Political Party: Must belong to the political party sponsoring him/her

Governor

  • Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian citizen (by birth for the Executive Offices)
  • Age: Governor & Deputy Governor – 35 years
  • Education: Up to School Certificate level or its equivalent
  • Political Party: Must belong to the political party sponsoring him/her

Senate

  • Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian citizen
  • Age: 35 years
  • Education: Up to School Certificate level or its equivalent.
  • Political Party: Must belong to the political party sponsoring him/her

House of Representatives

  • Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian citizen
  • Age: 25 years
  • Education: Up to School Certificate level or its equivalent.
  • Political Party: Must belong to the political party sponsoring him/her

House of Assembly

  • Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian citizen
  • Age: 25 years
  • Education: Up to School Certificate level or its equivalent.
  • Political Party: Must belong to the political party sponsoring him/her

Chairman of Area Council

  • Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian citizen
  • Age: 25 years
  • Education: Up to School Certificate level or its equivalent.
  • Political Party: Must belong to the political party sponsoring him/her

Councillor of Area Council

  • Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian citizen
  • Age: 25 years
  • Education: Up to School Certificate level or its equivalent.
